Customer Profile

PennEngineering has been a global leader in the fastening industry since its founding in 1942. Today they continue the legacy in the development and manufacture of precision fasteners, components and systems, specializing in thin sheet attachment solutions. PEM®, the company’s leading brand has been recognized as the premier product in the thin sheet fastening industry for over 75 years.

Why Premier?

Following an implementation of JD Edwards in the early 2000’s they’ve relied on Premier to support several upgrade projects. An installation of SmarterCommerce Payment Processing garnered the trust of PennEngineering’s management and were asked to support additional JD Edwards related projects. A need arose to optimize JD Edwards performance for end users and existing internal processes.

A Novel CNC Project

After some inspiration from the Advanced Tuning book, Penn Engineering launched an unconventional CNC design idea with the support of Premier’s CNC services. This project resulting in improvements to scalability, availability and flexibility while simultaneously improving application performance. Virtualization enables savings and scalability when JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is divided into segments. Load balancing allowed Penn Engineering to service JD Edwards instances and respond to failures so users can continue working without intervention. Database, operating system, tools release, or ESU changes can be tested safely and easily because of isolated environments. This redesigned architecture turned out to radically improve management and performance for Penn Engineering’s EnterpriseOne 9.0 iSeries environment.

"Having a committed partner with Premier Group, a relationship that we have built a trust over this time period, we have an expectation, and Premier Group continues to deliver on that expectation that the project will be on a fixed cost, has a defined start and end. We have done three projects and they have all been successful."
